They found themselves having to search tirelessly for innovative solutions to their pets health issues when veterinary services couldn’t provide an answer. Originally called Brookhaven Sporting Goods, eFootwear has been a Delaware County fixture since 1982. With all his savings and a lot of hard work, John Elison Sr. opened a little “hole in the wall” sneaker store on Dutton Mill Road. Working full time for Conrail, John worked nights and weekends selling sneakers. In the beginning, it was tough for John and his wife, Theresa. The little “sneaker store” (as it came to be known by area residents) was minimal inside and out. A fresh coat of paint, a patchwork of remnant, carpeting on the floor and wooden shelves, built by John himself, was all there was to the store, but it worked! His philosophy was simple: buy the building cheap, fix it up to be functional, not fancy, and sell popular brands at competitive prices. With his savings, he bought the building, fixed it up himself and worked it by himself and his wife. There were no loans taken out and certainly no government help to get him started. His philosophy along with his determination and hard work paid off!
